Friday, September 1st - WIL goes to Hollywood:
Continuing on its amazing US run the feature film by first time director Jeremy Weinstein has just been selected to play the 10th Hollywood film Festival in mid October. Screening only 27 feature films last year with titles like "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and "North County" the prestigious festival is run in conjunction with the Hollywood Awards which is the first cab off the rank in the pre Oscar awards season.
Following WIL's success in both the Rhode Island International Film Festival and the Independents Film Festival in Florida where it won Best International Director and Best Feature Film respectively the film is gaining momentum as it approaches it's release date of October 19th in Melbourne.
Still without a distributor this independently financed film is being self distributed locally with the hope that it will generate interest in the other states. Currently the film is screening exclusively at the Classic Cinema in Elsternwick.
Saturday, August 19th - WIL wins in Florida:
Less than a week after winning the Best International Director at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, the low budget feature, WIL, has just taken out the top honours at the Independents Film Festival in Florida winning Best Feature Film.
The festival, which is also broadcast on Channel 18 in Florida, was delighted to announce the winner a month prior to the actual film screening, with Lucy Griggs - festival director - saying "We love your quirky, funny, smart film. Keep them coming!!"
Sunday, August 13th - WIL wins in Rhode Island:
First time feature director, Jeremy Weinstein, has walked away with top honours from the Rhode Island International Film Festival winning the 'Best Director - International Features' award for his film WIL. In his speech, Jeremy thanked all those who were involved in the film as well as the festival for selecting the film, then nominating it amongst the top ten features and finally giving him this award.
WIL made its world premiere at the festival and was a huge hit with audiences - some of whome came to see it more than once.
WIL is due to screen in Florida next month, get a cinematic release at the Classic Cinema Elsternwick from October 19th and then onto Washington in early December.
Tuesday, July 20th - WIL to screen at RIIFF:
WIL the debut feature film directed by Jeremy Weinstein is set to have its world Premiere at the 10th Rhode Island International Film Festival. The festival, voted in the top 12 film festivals in America, selects the majority of its program from the entries, not other festivals. As always the competition was fierce but the film was successfully selected from over 2000 entries putting in the top 10% of submitted films.
WIL has largely flown "under the radar" in comparison to other Australian films made this year but it boasts a stellar cast none the less including Matt Dyktynski (Love and Other Catastrophes, Japanese Story), Max Gillies (The Cars That Ate Paris, The Gillies Report), Evelyn Krape (Babe: Pig in the City, Greeks on the Roof), Terry Cammileri (Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure, The Truman Show) and Colin Lane (Lano and Woodley) just to name a few.
WIL was a unique achievement in recent Australian cinema on a number of counts, not only was its $1.4M budget funded entirely by one investor but the film was also made very quickly; only 18 months from concept to completion. In addition, the ambitious film is set almost entirely inside an elevator, a metaphor for Wilbur Schindel's mind, as he contemplates his life as a result of a job promotion.
